GALERIE MORGEN AT THE KUNSTHOF IN BERLIN'S MITTE DISTRICT

In May 2008, Angelika Watzl opened GALERIE MORGEN at 27 Oranienburger Strasse in Berlin’s Mitte district. The new gallery covers an area of just under 200 square meters. The vigor of the gallery’s name indicates a the forward-looking nature of the program, which will predominantly encompass contemporary international painting and photography. At the forefront is the emergence and permanent establishing of artists who are either just embarking on their artistic career, or who have already produced a considerable oeuvre. One particular program focus looks at artistic approaches which explore questions of the meaning of human existence and man’s position in the world today. The individual, artistic formal power and strong self-confidence of the artists involved are intended to prove the program’s worth against fashionable quotation art. The works showcased will reflect the vision of a high artistic quality. This also means that the art is not selected first and foremost in line with the gallery owner’s personal taste, but rather the selection is based on questions concerning the inherent artistic relevance of each of the stances. GALERIE MORGEN intends to show art which will just as much be of relevance in the future as it triggers interesting forces of attraction today.

 

Galerie Morgen Salon

The necessary, and at times certainly difficult approach to challenging artistic thought is intended to be facilitated by a salon, which the gallery will organize in the course of each new exhibition. Alongside providing ample support to the artists it represents during the development of their works, the gallery considers its primary task to be the public communication of artistic approaches, aiming to give people a broad-based understanding of them. As such, Angelika Watzl wishes to pass on her great enthusiasm for the special qualities of her artists to selected collectors and art aficionados in individual conversations.
